Daneysi Valdovinos and Rony Monzon were just enjoying pizza and
Mexican ballads when an unknown assailant opened fire on Daneysi's front porch.
Bullets were whizzing toward Daneysi when 13-year-old Rony stood in front of
the bullets, shielding his friend from the gun blasts, in Chicago's Brighton
Park neighborhood Wednesday night around 9:25 p.m
Daneysi told the Chicago
Sun-Times, "They would have hit me in the head, but he stood up in front
of me and they hit him instead." Rony took six bullets to protect his
friend.
He was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital's intensive care unit, where
he is currently recovering. "I'm lucky - very lucky," he said.
Throughout the whole experience, Rony has kept his sense of humor. "I'm
like the Terminator," he joked with his friends.
Rony explained that the bullets were not intended for him:
"The guy was looking the other way for someone else then he saw me and got
scared and started shooting."
